| 4/20/2010 | Partnership with Portraits of Hope (POH) project. |
| Lifeguard Division is proud to be in partnership with the Board of Supervisors, Beaches & Harbors, and LACOLA on the Portraits of Hope (POH) project. The POH project is consistent with our departmental core values and focuses on achieving individual and societal goals through education, creativity, and teamwork. Many of the children that will participate in this project face many hurdles in life including socio-economic, physical, or emotional challenges. We are pleased that this project will instill a lasting sense of achievement and pride in all those children that are privileged to participate. Key points: * An historic, one-of-a-kind, visual transformation of LA’s famed beaches during peak season. * A major civic engagement project involving thousands of youth and adults from schools, hospitals, and social service programs. * More than 100 life guard towers in a row. * Spanning more than 30 miles of LA’s world famous coastline. * 45 million beach visitors. * World renown Zuma, Malibu, Santa Monica, “Baywatch,” Venice, Marina Del Rey, Playa Del Rey, Manhattan and Hermosa Beaches connected tower by tower. * Dynamic, vivid colors and designs. * Seen from land, air, and water. |

| On November 19 a dedication ceremony was held at the new Southern Section Lifeguard Headquarters. The last Lifeguard Headquarters stood for over 30 years and the 3-phase pier project, which included the new Lifeguard Headquarters, began 6-years ago. Construction on the final phase lasted 13 months. The County of Los Angeles provided $1.9 million in funding for the project. | |
