A beach closure has been issued at 19830 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu. The closure area is 50 yards up-coast and down-coast of this address. The beach will be reopened when testing results indicates the water is safe.

Information for the 2013 Junior Lifeguard Program

General Program Information

The Junior Guard Program is offered to all boys and girls in Los Angeles County.  The program is designed to instruct youth (ages 9 through 17) in beach and ocean skills.  The five week program provides instruction in water safety, swimming, body surfing, surfing, physical conditioning, competition skills, first aid, lifesaving, rescue techniques, CPR and the use of professional Lifesaving equipment.

Program Dates and Hours:

The dates of the 2013 Junior Lifeguard program are Monday, July 1st through Friday, August 2nd.  No Class on July 4th. Classes are every day, Monday through Friday. There are two class sessions: Morning session (8:30am - 11:30am) and afternoon session (1:30pm - 4:30pm).  Some areas do not offer the afternoon session.  Program hours are occasionally modified into a FULL day, upon the Instructor's discretion. Program Fee:

The fee for this year's JG Program is $476.   A uniform is included in the fee.  Girls receive a Junior Lifeguard t-shirt and a navy blue Speedo tank swimsuit. Boys receive a Junior Lifeguard t-shirt and navy blue custom designed Body Glove board shorts. Financial Aid is available. 

Swim Tryouts:

New applicants for the Summer 2013 program are required to tryout.  A photocopy of the applicant's birth certificate must be presented before a child can tryout. Swim test dates will be announced soon.

May 4th - 8am to 4pm - Mira Costa High School Pool

(701 S. Peck Avenue, Manhattan Beach)

May 18th - 9am to 12pm - Culver City Plunge

(4175 Overland Avenue, Culver City)

June 2nd - 10am to 1pm - Palisades Charter HS Pool

(15777 Bowdoin Street, Pacific Palisades)

 

Swim Times:

A's (ages 14-17) 100 yards under 1:30

B's (ages 12-13) 100 yards under 1:40

C's (ages 9-11)   100 yards under 1:50 

CADETS (ages 16-17) 500 yards under 7:15 qualifies to move forward in the application process. See Cadet page.
